Thousands Of Gaza Amputees To Get Rapid Prosthetic Limbs Using Uk Tech

Thousands of Gaza amputees to get rapid prosthetic limbs using UK tech

New technology from the UK will allow thousands of amputees in Gaza to receive rapid prosthetic limbs, offering them a new lease of life.

The innovative technology, developed by Bristol-based company Open Bionics, uses 3D printing to create custom-made prosthetic limbs that are both affordable and easy to fit.

Currently, there are over 10,000 amputees in Gaza, many of whom have been injured in the ongoing conflict with Israel. However, due to the blockade imposed on Gaza by Israel and Egypt, access to prosthetics is extremely limited.

The new technology from Open Bionics will allow amputees to receive prosthetic limbs within days, rather than the months or even years it can currently take. The limbs are also designed to be durable and easy to maintain, meaning that they can withstand the harsh conditions in Gaza.

The project is being funded by the UK government's Department for International Development (DFID). DFID Minister Alistair Burt said: "This is a life-changing project that will make a real difference to the lives of thousands of amputees in Gaza. The UK is committed to supporting the people of Gaza and helping them to build a better future."

Open Bionics CEO Joel Gibbard said: "We are delighted to be working with DFID on this project. Our technology has the potential to transform the lives of amputees in Gaza, giving them back their mobility and independence. We are committed to making this project a success and we are confident that it will make a real difference to the lives of thousands of people."
