Four Dead Three Injured As Blazes Rip Through Capital

Paris Rocked by Deadly Fires

Four dead, three injured as blazes rip through capital

At least four people have died and three were injured in two separate fires in central Paris overnight, with three of the victims perishing in a blaze that engulfed an apartment building in the city's 2nd arrondissement.

The deadly inferno broke out at around 4:30am on Tuesday morning, tearing through the building located on Rue d'Aboukir, near the Sentier metro station. Three people were pronounced dead at the scene as firefighters battled to contain the flames, while three others were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

A separate fire broke out in the city's 10th arrondissement, claiming the lives of four people. The blaze erupted around 6:00am in a building on Rue de Dunkerque, in the bustling Gare du Nord district. Firefighters managed to rescue several people from the burning building, but four victims were unable to escape the inferno.

The causes of both fires are still under investigation, but authorities suspect that an electrical fault may have sparked the blaze in the 2nd arrondissement. The fire in the 10th arrondissement is believed to have started on the ground floor of the building before spreading to the upper floors.

The deadly fires have cast a pall over the French capital, with President Emmanuel Macron expressing his condolences to the victims' families and praising the efforts of the firefighters who risked their lives to save others.
