Greaves scored 44 goals in 57 appearances for England
Former England striker and Tottenham's record goalscorer Jimmy Greaves has died at the age of 81. Greaves, who was capped 57 times for England, scored 44 goals for his country and was a member of the 1966 World Cup-winning squad. He also played for Chelsea, AC Milan and West Ham, and is Tottenham's all-time leading goalscorer with 266 goals in 379 appearances. Greaves was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2014, and had been living in a care home in Essex. Tottenham said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our record goalscorer, Jimmy Greaves, at the age of 81. "Jimmy passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of Sunday morning, surrounded by his family. "The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with Jimmy's family and friends at this sad time." England manager Gareth Southgate said: "Jimmy Greaves was one of the greatest goalscorers this country has ever seen. "His record speaks for itself and he was a wonderful role model for young people. "He will be sadly missed by all those who loved the game."
