Breaking News: Kidnap Plot Against Michigan Governor Fails
Acquittal of Accused Plotters
A US federal jury has acquitted two men, Adam Fox and Barry Croft Jr., of charges related to a plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2020. The jury deliberated for hours before reaching a verdict.
Investigation and Trial
The charges stemmed from an investigation into an alleged plot to kidnap Whitmer at her vacation home in northern Michigan. The FBI had infiltrated the group and arrested dozens of individuals connected to the scheme.
Prosecutors presented evidence that Fox and Croft had engaged in training exercises, scouted potential targets, and discussed purchasing explosives to carry out the plan. However, the defense argued that the men were entrapped by the FBI and did not intend to commit any violence.
In a statement after the verdict, Governor Whitmer expressed her gratitude to law enforcement for preventing the plot and praised the jury for their service.
