Emmanuel Macron: Ukraine faces 'huge' training challenge

French President warns against sending Western troops to Ukraine

Several NATO countries, including the US, Germany, and the UK, have ruled out deploying ground troops to Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron has said Ukraine is facing a "huge" challenge training soldiers as it seeks to mobilize tens of thousands more troops to go to the front lines. Macron also warned against sending Western troops to Ukraine, saying that such a move could lead to a wider conflict with Russia.

"The question of sending Western troops to Ukraine would legitimately arise if Russia broke through Ukrainian lines and threatened to take control of a large part of the country," Macron said in an interview with the French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche. "But that is not the case today."

Macron's comments come as several NATO countries, including the US, Germany, and the UK, have ruled out deploying ground troops to Ukraine. These countries have said that they are providing Ukraine with military equipment and training, but they are not willing to risk a direct confrontation with Russia.

Macron's refusal to rule out sending troops to Ukraine has raised questions about whether he is willing to take a more aggressive approach to the conflict than other Western leaders. Macron has long been a proponent of dialogue with Russia, and he has previously met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in an attempt to find a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Ukraine.

However, Macron's recent comments suggest that he may be losing patience with Russia's intransigence. Macron has said that he is "not naive" about Russia's intentions, and he has warned that the West must be prepared to "defend our values" if Russia continues to escalate the conflict in Ukraine.
