England Edge Denmark to Reach World Cup Semis
James Strike Seals Victory
Lionesses on Brink of Title Defense
England took a huge step towards defending their Women's World Cup title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Denmark in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Lauren James, making her first start of the tournament, scored a stunning goal in the 10th minute to put England ahead. The Lionesses dominated possession throughout the match but were unable to add to their lead, as Denmark goalkeeper Lene Christensen made several key saves.
England coach Phil Neville praised James' performance, saying, "She took her chance brilliantly. It was a moment of magic that won us the game." England will now face Sweden in the semifinals on Tuesday. Denmark, meanwhile, will exit the tournament.
